#YearofMindfulness Day 66: Habit

According to researcher Phillippa Lally, the length of time before a new habit becomes automatic ranges between 18 and 254 days, with an average of 66 days (see rebrand.ly/habit). Today is Day 66 of my #YearofMindfulness--my year of practicing mindfulness daily in the hope that paying attention to what's happening in the present (instead of planning for/worrying about the future) will become automatic. While I do feel significantly more relaxed overall than I did when I started my mindfulness practice, and I do feel much better equipped to recognize and to calm down when my stress level is beginning to escalate, I don't feel like practicing mindfulness comes naturally to me . . . yet.


Area for Growth: Continue putting in the effort to consistently practice mindfulness every day.


Wins: I have practiced mindfulness at least once every day this year (and three times today)!


Takeaway: In my quest to integrate this habit into my life, I must consistently (daily) practice mindfulness. When did your habit become a natural part of your life?
